Please, Stop Trying To Make Me ‘Adult’

Let me get one thing straight.

This is not a post where I witter on about the difficulties of having conversations that consist entirely of rent controlled apartments, or explaining how now I’m all grown up I actually feel guilty for having cereal for every meal (because I don’t. I really don’t.) I’m not actually talking about being an adult at all. My grievances are specific to the actual word. Or rather, the current trend of misusing it.

Now admittedly I’ve never been all that great at following trends. I didn’t get Pokemon Go, I haven’t seen Breaking Bad, and I couldn’t have cared less about Christian Grey; so the fact that I’m abstaining from yet another trend – well -it isn’t really too out of character. Because the fact of the matter is, even if I ever wanted to follow a trend, I’m so bad at keeping up to date with the news most of them have come and gone before I’ve heard of them anyway. Needless to say, I’m not exactly the best girl to ask when it comes to knowing what’s trendy.

But I do know this…

Adult is not a verb. And it should never be used as one.

Because if it’s necessary to wrap a word in quotation marks in order to clarify your intended meaning, then you should probably just pick a different word. (Trendy or not.)

(And while we’re at it, shall we stop trying to make ‘resting bitch face’ happen too? That’s sick for a whole other reason.)
